This Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations: Slinger Signaller is a qualification for those who work attaching and detaching loads, directing crane movements, and maintaining communication with crane operators during lifting operations. This is also known as a Slinger/Signaller qualification. It is a lifetime qualification that is completed through on-site assessment. NO classes, NO exams, and NO time off work are required.
This qualification will enable you to:
- Demonstrate and gain recognition for your competence in safely attaching and detaching loads, directing crane movements, and maintaining communication with crane operators to ensure safe lifting operations.
Eligibility:
To enroll in this NVQ, learners must have already completed one of the following training courses and have the red CPCS or NPORS card:
- CPCS A40 Slinger Signaller/Slinger Banksman course
- NPORS N402 Slinger Signaller course
Learners must also be able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English.
Assessment Process:
- Registration: Upon enrollment, a dedicated assessor will be assigned to you.
- Site Visits: Your assessor will schedule site visits based on your work availability to observe your skills.
- Evidence Gathering: During these visits, your assessor will capture evidence through photos, videos, and recordings.
- Workbook: You will complete a workbook questionnaire containing knowledge questions about your role at your own pace over 6-8 weeks.
- Discussion: You will discuss with your assessor how you carry out your role.
- Completion: The qualification is typically achieved within 6-8 weeks.
Practical Observation on-site will include documenting tasks like:
- Communication: Effective communication with the crane operator using hand signals and verbal commands.
- Rigging: Correctly attaching and detaching heavy loads using appropriate slings and chains.
- Safety checks: Conducting pre-lift inspections of slings, hooks, and other equipment.
- Load handling: Safely handling and positioning heavy loads during lifting operations.
- Documentation: Completing necessary paperwork, such as load sheets and inspection reports.
